This is the support page for Pashaberi, the app that keeps 10 seconds of voice with a photo.
If something is not working, please look through this page first. If it does not solve the problem, contact the email address at the bottom of the page.
Frequently asked questions
Q1. No voice is recorded — I only get the photo
Microphone access may not be allowed.
- iOS: Settings app → Pashaberi → turn on Microphone
- Android: Settings app → Apps → Pashaberi → Permissions → allow Microphone
Even without the microphone, taking, saving, and viewing photos all keep working. The shutter button acts as "Take without sound."
Recording can also be interrupted when a phone call comes in or another app starts using audio. What happens depends on when the interruption occurred.
- Interrupted before the photo was taken The message "Recording stopped, but you can still take a photo." appears and the camera returns to standby. At this point no photo has been taken yet. Please shoot again.
- Interrupted after the photo was taken The message "Recording stopped, but your photo was saved." appears and only the photo is saved.
If recording could not start at all, the message "Couldn't record sound, but you can still take a photo." appears. In that case you can simply continue shooting.
Q2. How many seconds can I record?
10 seconds for both free and Pro.
You can start recording before you take the photo.
- Press the center "Record" button to start recording
- Press the same button again to take the photo
- Recording continues after the shot. You are free to split the time before and after
- At the limit (10 seconds) recording stops automatically and is saved
If you reach the limit without pressing the button again, the photo is taken automatically at that moment. This keeps the face from right after the last word.
We chose ten seconds because it is enough to finish saying "cheese" or "thank you for today," and a length that still lets you hear those few words whenever you look back at the photo.
Q3. Can the shutter sound be turned off?
The app has no setting to silence the shutter sound.
Most smartphones sold in Japan play a shutter sound even in silent mode, as a specification of the device manufacturer. This is not something an app can change. (We have not verified behavior on every device and OS version, so behavior may differ by device.)
Also, because Pashaberi keeps recording after the shot, the shutter sound can be captured in the recording. This is the result of giving priority to letting you speak freely both before and after the shutter.
Please be considerate when shooting in quiet places.
Q4. Where are my photos saved?
Your photos with sound are saved inside the Pashaberi app. Separately, what you shoot is also saved to your device's Photos app (on by default; you can turn it off in the settings — see Q11).
You can also save manually later. Use "Save to Photos" on the photo detail screen or the 4-frame story detail screen. For a photo with a voice, you choose whether to save it as an image (JPEG) or a video (MP4). Choosing video (MP4) keeps the voice with it. An image (JPEG) carries no sound. A photo without a voice is saved as an image (JPEG) as is. The app may ask for permission to access Photos at this point.
"Share" works the same way: for a photo with a voice you can choose between image (JPEG) and video (MP4).
Neither your photos nor your voices are ever sent to the developer's server. There is no server to begin with. Your data leaves the device only when items saved to the Photos app sync according to your photo cloud settings (Q11), when they are included in an OS backup (Q5), or when you yourself export or share them. For details, see the Privacy Policy.
Q5. If I switch devices, does my data move to the new one?
The app itself has no data-migration feature for switching devices (as of version 1.0.0). Carrying data over depends on your device backups and transfer method.
However, if "Also save to Photos" is on (the default — Q11), the photos you take (as videos when they have a voice) are also stored in your Photos app. If you use iCloud Photos, Google Photos, or another photo-app backup, they will also be available on the new device through that path (captions, speech bubbles, and 4-frame arrangements inside the app depend on the OS backup, as in the table below).
The table below describes the app-side implementation (what is excluded from backups or not). It is not a guarantee that an actual device migration will succeed (the developer has not run migration tests on real devices). Results vary with backup settings, free space, OS version, and transfer method.
| Situation | How the app treats it |
|---|---|
| iPhone → iPhone (restore from iCloud backup, or direct transfer with Quick Start) | Photos, audio, typed text, and settings are all left inside the backup scope (we checked the code and confirmed there is not a single exclusion flag). If iCloud Backup is on and space is sufficient, they are included |
| Android → Android (direct device-to-device transfer) | No exclusions are specified, so they are included. However, if the source device runs Android 11 or earlier, photos and audio may not transfer (the developer has not been able to verify this) |
| Android, restoring from the Google account cloud auto-backup | Photos and audio are excluded. Cloud backup has a per-app size limit that photos and audio are expected to exceed. Captions, speech bubbles, 4-frame arrangements, and settings are included. For the photos and voices themselves, the copies kept in your Photos app by "Also save to Photos" are what you can rely on (Q11) |
| Switching between iPhone and Android | Cannot be carried over because the operating systems differ |
| If you delete the app | The data inside the app is deleted. The developer cannot restore it (if a copy remains in an OS backup or your Photos app, you can restore from there yourself) |
We recommend exporting important photos with the share feature and saving them separately to your device's Photos app or your own cloud. If you also want the voice, choose video (MP4) when exporting (Q4).
Q6. What do I get with Pro?
Pro adds exactly three things:
- Ads are no longer shown
- The watermark (the "Pashaberi" mark) is removed from exported photos and videos
And everything you can do without Pro stays the same.
Taking photos, saving, playback, captions, speech bubbles (all styles, any number), 4-frame stories (all layouts), and exporting are free of charge, with no limit on how often you use them.
Pro is a one-time purchase. You pay once, with no further charges. It is not a subscription, so there is nothing to cancel.
Q7. I want to remove the ads
Purchasing Pro removes the ads. You can purchase from the settings screen, or from "Remove ads" on an ad.
Right after the purchase, only the ad display disappears. There is no way to stop the advertising machinery once it has started. Quit and relaunch the app — from the next launch on, the advertising machinery itself no longer runs.
(On Android, right after reinstalling the app or in other states where no purchase record is stored on the device, the advertising machinery may run until the purchase check finishes. Once confirmed, ads are not shown.)
Ads appear only at the bottom of the free version's gallery screen and 4-frame story list screen. They never appear on the camera screen, photo detail screen, editing screen, or settings screen. There are no full-screen ads.
Q8. I bought Pro but the ads are still there / the watermark is still there
Try "Restore purchases" on the settings screen.
- Check that the device is signed in with the same store and the same account you used to purchase (the same Apple Account if you bought on the App Store, the same Google account if you bought on Google Play)
- Purchases on the App Store and on Google Play are not shared. Pro bought on an iPhone is not valid on Android, and vice versa
- This operation is needed after switching devices or reinstalling the app
- Restoring does not work without a network connection
- This operation restores only the Pro entitlement. Photos and voice data do not come back (Q5)
If it still does not work, please contact us with the date and time of purchase and which store you purchased on.
Q9. If I delete a photo, does its voice disappear too?
Yes, it does. The photo, its audio, and its caption and speech bubble text are deleted together.
- A 4-frame story that used the photo remains. Only that frame becomes empty (deleting the whole story would also destroy the edits of the other three photos)
- Images and videos you already exported are not deleted. Delete the copies left in the Photos app or at the places you sent them, in each of those places
- Whatever was included in an OS backup remains inside that backup (Q5)
There is no way to undo a deletion from inside the app. The developer has no backup either (nothing is ever received in the first place).
Before deleting, export anything you want to keep.
Q10. Do I need an account?
No.
There is no email registration and no login. We never ask for your name, date of birth, or phone number.
Your photos and voices are stored on your device and are not sent to the developer's server. The app is designed so that no account is needed.
Q11. What is "Also save to Photos"? Can I turn it off?
It is a feature that also saves the photos with sound you take to your device's Photos app. It is on by default. It is built in from the start as insurance against losing your works to a device change or failure.
- Photos with a voice are saved as videos (MP4); photos without a voice as images (JPEG). Playing them in the Photos app plays the voice
- What is saved in the free version carries the same watermark (the "Pashaberi" mark) as exports. With Pro it does not (Q6)
- 4-frame stories, and captions and speech bubbles added later, are not included. Only the photo and voice as taken at that moment are saved
- The destination is the Photos app on your device. Nothing is sent to the developer's server. If your Photos app syncs with iCloud Photos or Google Photos, it may sync according to those settings
To turn it off: settings screen → "Camera" → turn off "Also save to Photos." From then on, new shots are no longer saved to the Photos app. Items already saved remain in the Photos app; delete them there if you no longer want them.
When iOS asks for permission: the first time this saving runs, the app asks for permission to add to Photos. Even if you decline, taking photos and saving and playing them inside the app keep working. (On Android 8 and 9, saving requires storage access; if prompted, allow it in the device settings.)

- Whether it happens every time or only sometimes
For purchase inquiries, please tell us the date and time of purchase and whether you purchased on the App Store or Google Play.
A few requests
- There is no need to attach photos or recordings. First tell us what operation led to what result.
- The refund contact differs by store.
- Purchases on the App Store: handled by Apple. The developer cannot process refunds. Please use Report a Problem to Apple
- Purchases on Google Play: first follow the Google Play refund policy. The developer may also be able to issue a refund from the Google Play Console, so feel free to contact the email address on this page
- In either case, whether a refund is granted is determined by each store's rules and the law. The developer does not guarantee a refund
